Now that's an opening move. As soon as the coati moves on Michael's instruction to face his rooster trainer, the crowd murmurs in appreciative surprise. The rooster seems pretty surprised too, but then he laughs, genuinely pleased with this turn of events.

Time to do this.

From the start, Michael's got the upper hand against the raccoon. It doesn't move as fast as the coati does, being a bit bulkier, and with his surprise teleportation move, it's off its feet right away. Literally. A combination of Grease (DC 12; +1 STR, +1 teleportation boost = 18 + 2 = 20) and Earth Tremor (DC 12; +1 STR, +1 teleportation boost = 20 + 2 = 22) bowl the raccoon over so thoroughly that it's rolled all the way onto its back, stubby legs waggling in the air. Michael has to teleport away and then back again to keep from being flung into the grease himself. (DC 12; +1 STR, +1 teleportation boost = 8 + 2 = 10) Web doesn't manage to stick with all of the thrashing and grease and teleporting, but it honestly doesn't matter. The raccoon is staying where it's at.

That being said, it's hard to completely avoid its clumsy blows. (DC 12; +1 STR, +1 downed enemy = 8 + 2 = 10) Those stubby legs give stubby kicks, and Michael, upon teleporting back into place on the raccoon's stomach, catches one right in the ribs. Ow. It's not nearly enough to incapacitate, but he's gonna be feeling it for a few days for sure.

Not as much as his opponent, though. Because man, the tactic of going for the joints? That pays off immediately. (DC 12; +1 STR, +1 Spellmaster = 19 + 2 = 21) His Flaming Sword finds weak spots quickly, one after another after another; the raccoon wriggles and kicks, but can't seem to get its footing again or even land another blow.

At this point, Michael's victory is obvious. It's assured.

But there's something else happening on this field.

The coati and its rooster trainer, well, they know each other pretty well. The rooster taught the coati everything it knows. Beyond that, the rooster is quicker on his feet and much, much better at improvising. (DC 11; 8) Maybe it's no surprise, then, that the coati is wildly outmatched against its trainer, pinned into a corner just as quickly as the raccoon was pinned under Michael's attack. Its trainer's weapon is raised, ready to take it down—

Until a great shimmering shield comes down around the magitech beast, blocking its master's attack. From his position atop the raccoon, Michael holds one hand out, maintaining Shield of Faith around his partner, with his flaming sword pointed towards his own foe's throat.

The crowd goes absolutely batshit crazy. In a good way this time! Amidst the screaming and waving and chanting (not all of the crowd has gathered Michael's name, so half of the Coliseum is unfortunately chanting STRING BEAN MAN in perfect sync), the rooster laughs and drops his shortbow. Cupping his wings around his beak, he manages to shout GOOD JOB over the roar of the crowd, then give two feathery thumbs up while the coati chitters contentedly.
