Unfortunately, Sayori's been doing a lot of spellcasting in the last couple of hours, and she's pretty drained. (DC 11; 8) When she tries to cast Digital Phantom, the juice just isn't there. Call it a short circuit.
Still, that's not the end of the world. (DC 14; +2 Bardic Inspiration, ADV = 4 16 + 2 = 18) Mx. Axager is still on the case, and they do pretty well for the next half hour of travel! There's little to find along the way, though. (DC 15; 14) Both Yuri's and (DC 15; 5) Sayori's familiars fail to spot anything even remotely interesting as the day wears on.
There's a sense of foreboding, as if everyone in the Doki Dread Literature Club knows that their luck can't hold forever. They've gone about half of the way to the end of the horizon when it breaks. (DC 14; +2 Bardic Inspiration, ADV = 7 7 + 2 = 9 +2 Danger Sense = 11) Behind them, a quiet stampede makes itself known, the scuffing of Cursed feet in the sand more terrifying in its relative silence. They're still a good ways away, but it'd be a good idea to start those evasive maneuvers right about now!
The good news: it's pretty easy to stay ahead of the Cursed. They're steady, but they're slow, and the gals are more than capable of fending them off. The bad new: where there are a few Cursed, there are hundreds. (DC 12; +6 obstacles = 1 + 6 = 7 +2 Danger Sense = 9) Even as they leave the Cursed in their wake behind, flinging spells, projectiles, and distractions, more are coming from every direction. Before long, their every possible route of escape is cut off by the sheer numbers of these things.
Luck's on their side in one way, though. (DC 11; 12) Sayori gets that ring of Bahamut protection up quickly enough that nobody gets hurt. The Cursed mill around outside the flames, their confusion quickly turning into anger.
So, neat. Nobody's currently dead. But Doki Dang that's Lots of Cursed has a big problem to deal with. They're surrounded by an increasing number of Cursed, an absolute mob that's gaining numbers by the second. Whatever the Spork was pointing them to, they certainly haven't found it yet. How will our heroes make it out of this one?
